For the last couple weeks, The Hollywood Gossip has looked back at 2009 by naming the finalists for our prestigious, 3rd Annual Celebrity of the Year award.

In this section, we’ve been paying tribute to the unique stars that made the past 12 months so memorable for gossip followers across the nation and globe. Now, following last edition’s selection of Miley Cyrus in the #2 spot, we’ve finally reached the top. Drumroll please…

For 2009, THG’s Celebrity of the Year is… the New Moon cast!

Critics might say we’re copping out by choosing more than one star for this honor, but come on. Everyone involved with the Twilight Saga deserves recognition for turning a book series into the most popular, buzzed-about film franchise in years.

So, what enabled New Moon to gross over $660 million worldwide? A cast of young, fresh, gorgeous, talented and seemingly grounded individuals. Below, we note each actor’s 2009 accomplishments:

Robert Pattinson: Might as well start at the top. The British actor has grown into a global phenomenon. He can’t walk away from a film set without being followed by countless paparazzi members, his every interaction with women is chronicled like it’s a Presidential summit and he was named one of People’s 50 Most Beautiful People of 2009.

8. "Remember Me," or "When Edward Finds A Blonde"
Keeping in line with chick-flicks we're excited for is Robert Pattinson's newest non-vampire film, "Remember Me." Not only is it Rob's first chance to show to the world (in wide release) his acting capabilities, but it's also starring some of our favorite people. Emile de Ravin! Pierce Brosnan! Chris Cooper! It's March 12 release date will hopefully satiate our "Twilight" needs for at least a week.

2. "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," or "Another Record Breaker"
"Eclipse" is the one book in the "Twilight" series that truly lives up to the hype (Action! Romance! The supernatural!), and is sure to reach a wider audience then both of its predecessors and sustain its income a bit longer than "New Moon" did. Really, if you're reading this list, you're sure to not need any explanation for why June 30 is a date to look forward to.

We all know that the Isle of Wight is ‘the’ place to be on New Year’s Eve and Ventnor is no exception.So it’s no surprise to hear from friend and reader of VB, Norbie, that Twilight (blockbuster vampire films) stars Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart have been spotted in our dear town, Ventnor. Charlotte Stockdale gave us the first heads-up at about 1pm this afternoon asking “is it true Robert Pattinson is on the IOW?” on Twitter.

There were, of course, plenty of other high points, from the insanity surrounding the ¡°Twilight Saga: New Moon¡± release and the breathless chatter about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart¡¯s alleged relationship, to the hilarity of the Eminem/Br¨¹no incident at the MTV Movie Awards.The pulsing soundtrack to the whole maddening mess was provided, of course, by MTV News¡¯ Woman of the Year, Lady Gaga.

We tried to be everywhere for you this year, covering all the major events and news stories, offering the first peeks at videos and listens to the hottest albums while spending way more time than we would like to think about monitoring celebrity Twitter accounts. But, after careful consideration, we¡¯ve boiled down the ¡°Top 9 of ¡®09¡å events that rocked our world this year.

4. The Twilight Saga.
New Moon, the second installment in the film version of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series intensified the hold that shiny pretty vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) has on females all over the world. Alas, his fangs are only for Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), who, in turn, is loved by werewolf Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Team Edward and Team Jacob members fought over who was the best match for the girl-next-door. Was it the yummy bloodsucker or the fine furry friend with the six-pack? While that all-important question has yet to be answered (at least until the next screen installment is shown), tons of Twilight merchandise—from shirts to action figures—have been sold to its most ardent fans.

6. Plaid Shirts.
Fashion-conscious chicks sashayed in plaid boyfriend-inspired shirts in 2009. Plus, it didn’t hurt that Twilight’s Bella Swan seemed to have hooked her vampire sweetheart wearing the getup.
